What is literacy?

A useful definition of literacy is:

“The set of skills which allows an individual to engage fully in society and in learning, through the different forms of language, and the range of texts, which society values and finds useful.”

Without adequate reading, writing, listening and talking skills, students often find it difficult to fully engage in the learning process. This in turn affects their ability to develop valuable life skills. Within Graeme High School we are fully committed to improving all students’ literacy skills.
